Yesterday at church I learnt something super exciting and I couldn't wait to share it with you. As we all know, we are living in an era where new 'prophets' are literally popping up from left, right and center. Because of the high unemployment rates, starting a church has now become a business venture more than it is a community of believers. These 'prophets' look for what people are desperate for - healing, money, prosperity - they promise them that at the expense of the 'little' wealth they actually have.
As much as this might hurt us, we should not be surprised because the bible tells us in Matthew 24:11 that, "And many FALSE prophets shall rise and shall deceive many." This is again amplified in 1 John 4:1 ~ "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many FALSE prophets are gone out into the world."
Since the Bible warned us against false prophets, the same bible should help us to distinguish between the true and false prophets. Guideline for studying the bible, "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, and there little." ~ Isaiah 28:10. This means, we should use the bible and the bible alone to interpret the bible.
Moral of the story: God is a God of order, he would not leave us to be confused. He has revealed all the light that we might need through his prophets and he will do anything and everything to protect us from the snares of the devil.
NB - Our next post will give a biblical guideline of how we can test prophets to see which one is a true or false one.
